Malnutrition

Health Problem: Malnutrition

Malnutrition is a major health problem in Barangay Goin. It is evidenced by the high incidence of malnutrition with 48% of the total population of children 0-71 months old being underweight for age, stunted, underweight for height otherwise known as wasting or a combination of all three kinds.
To address this health problem, the group came up with several strategies targeting the factors contributing to malnutrition. The identified factors affecting or contributing to malnutrition are food insecurity, limited knowledge on adequate nutrition, poor feeding practices and poor sanitation or hygiene.
As of now, the group was able to implement some of the planned strategies for improvement of nutrition. The group was able to acquire programs on nutrition being implemented in Barangay Goin such as 120-days feeding program in the Day Care and Municipal-wide BNS Garden competition. Also, the group was able to establish linkages with Municipal Nutrition Office and Department of Agriculture via known point persons.
Lastly, we were able to propose the creation of “Nutrition Committee” to Barangay officials. However identification of representative per district is still to be accomplished. For future strategy implementations, the group plans to conduct a health teaching regarding Nutrition as well as cooking session and feeding program.
